What's the best treatment?

The most appropriate treatment will depend on factors such at the severity of the disease, the experience of the specialist and age at diagnosis. For example, stem cell transplants become increasingly difficult with age and number of previous treatments.  Older patients may not be robust enough to withstand aggressive chemotherapies and may be offered milder single treatments such as Chlorambucil (Leukeran). Most therapies involve chemotherapy cocktails with acronyms such as CHOP, CVP - from the initial letters of the ingredients. Many now contain Rituximab (Mabthera/Rituxan overseas) in combination with other agents, adding R as a prefix to the initial letters i.e R-CHOP.
