Picture this: ten brave (and slightly wobbly) souls, still decked out in neon spandex and questionable helmet hair, are gearing up for an epic ride through the scenic landscapes of the Netherlands. What began as a fun idea to ride from Amsterdam to Utrecht, to Leiden, and back to Amsterdam, has turned into a full-blown mission to raise awareness and crucial funds for WMUK, the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting those affected by Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinaemia (WM), a rare blood cancer.
"The cause is particularly close to our hearts," write the team, "because one of our riders (Jane Kidd - WMUK Trustee) is living with this rare cancer. But instead of letting that slow us down, we’re pushing harder than ever to show our support for WMUK and to help raise awareness for this incredible charity that’s doing such vital work.
"Now, we won’t sugarcoat it — training has been a challenge! We’ve got the hotels booked and the restaurant menus memorised (preparation is key!), but when it comes to the actual cycling part? Let’s just say there’s been a lot of learning curves—literally. But with each wobble, we’re getting stronger, and we know we’ll be ready for the big ride, kicking off on October 10th!
"The donations received so far have been nothing short of amazing. We’re so thankful for everyone who’s already chipped in to support this important cause. But the journey isn’t over yet—we still have a long way to go, both in kilometres and in fundraising, and we’d love your continued help to reach our goal.
"Every single donation, no matter the size, goes directly to WMUK. Your generosity helps them continue their life-changing work, providing expert information, and offering personal support to empower patients and their families to live well with WM.
"So, whether you’re a cycling enthusiast, a charity supporter, or someone who loves watching spandex-clad adults tackle Dutch bike lanes, we’d be so grateful for your support in the final stretch of our journey."
