Government announce end to shielding

The Government has announced that people classified as 'clinically extremely vulnerable' will no longer be advised to shield from 1 April 2021.

In line with the government’s ‘COVID-19 Response - Spring 2021’ roadmap published last month, those on the shielded patient list can begin to follow the national restrictions alongside the rest of the population. Over the next few weeks, if you are in the clinically extremely vulnerable (CEV) group, you will receive a letter notifying you of the end to shielding, and what this means.

Alongside following the national restrictions, people in the CEV group are still advised to take extra precautions to keep safe from the COVID-19 virus. For example:

  • You should still work from home if you can. If that is not possible, you can return to the workplace. However, your employer may still be able to furlough you under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
  • You are advised that if you do go out to the shops or pharmacy, you should consider going at quieter times of the day.

We understand that this news may cause some worry or anxiety. If want to talk to someone about the change in the restrictions, WMUK is here to help you. Please don't hesitate to email or call us.
