Leaving a Gift in Your Will to WMUK

A gift in your Will can help make sure care, information and support are there for people affected by WM and LPL for generations to come.

We understand that when you make a Will, your loved ones will be your priority. But once you have made provision for family and friends, many people choose to leave something to the causes that matter most to them – or to organisations that have made a difference to their own lives.

For WMUK, gifts left in Wills can make a lasting difference. They help us plan for the future and ensure we can continue to support people affected by Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinaemia and LPL for years to come.

You Don't have to be Wealthy to leave a Gift

One of the biggest myths about leaving a gift in your Will is that you need to have a large estate. In reality, a gift of any size can make a difference. And for a small charity like WMUK, which receives no statutory funding, every gift is especially valuable.

Whether you choose to leave a specific sum, a particular item or a percentage of your estate, your gift can help make sure future generations of WMers and their families have somewhere to turn for trusted information, expert support and a community that understands.

A gift of any size can make a lasting difference.

Why Leave a Gift to WMUK?

Help future generations of WMers and their families

A gift in your Will can help make sure we’re here for future generations of people affected by WM and LPL. As we learn more about these conditions and treatments change, we want to make sure that everyone diagnosed – now and in the future – can access the information, support and community they need to live well.

Help us plan for the future

Gifts left in Wills help WMUK plan ahead and use our funds wisely, where they are most needed. As a small charity with no statutory funding, we keep a close eye on every penny we spend. Legacy gifts give us the confidence to look beyond the immediate and invest in longer-term projects and services that can make a lasting difference.

Help future generations of WMers and their families

There’s something special about knowing that a gift you leave today could make a difference to someone you’ll never meet. Perhaps, years from now, someone newly diagnosed with WM or LPL will call our Support Line. They might be frightened or unsure about what their diagnosis means. And one of our expert nurses will be there to listen, answer their questions and reassure them that they’re not alone.

Your gift could help make that possible.

It can make things much easier for the people you love by setting out clearly what you would like to happen to your money, possessions and other assets.

And yet, more than half of UK adults don’t have a Will.

Many people assume they know what will happen to their estate when they die, but the law may not work in quite the way they expect.

To help give you peace of mind, WMUK has partnered with Octopus Legacy to offer you the chance to write your Will for FREE.

You’ll be given the opportunity to consider leaving a gift, but there’s absolutely no obligation to leave a gift to WMUK.

Making or Changing your Will

You’ll need the support of a solicitor or professional Will-writing service to make your Will. But it doesn’t have to be complicated, time-consuming or expensive. And remember, your Will isn't set in stone. You can review and update it whenever your circumstances or wishes change.

Three ways to leave a gift in your Will

There are three main ways you can leave a gift to WMUK:

1. Leave a percentage of your estate.

This is known as a residuary gift and is a share of whatever remains of your estate after other gifts and expenses have been dealt with.

2. Leave a specific sum of money.

his is known as a pecuniary gift and can be outlined in your will.

3. Leave a particular item

This is known as a specific gift and can include things such as jewellery or another possession.

There is no right or wrong way to leave a gift. What matters is choosing what feels right for you and your circumstances.
